No matter how much you love your city, sometimes a little getaway can make you love it even more. This can be easier said than done, of course, but if Spokane is your city, then you’re in luck. There is no shortage of nearby destinations.

In fact, there are many day trips that will take two hours or less each way and lead you to beautiful locations.

Beautiful Day Trips from Spokane:

Soap Lake

Soap Lake, located in the town of Soap Lake, Washington, is a naturally-mineralized lake known for its healing waters. Native American artifacts found near the lake are evidence that indigenous people of the area knew the healing secrets of this natural spa. Visitors to Soap Lake come seeking solace and refuge from the rigors of day-to-day life.

If your day trip ends up a weekend away, Soap Lake Natural Spa and Resort is located on the shores of Soap Lake and offers luxury accommodations as well as teepee or tent camping. For a most restorative stay, choose a cabin with your very own Jetted Tub, filled with the mineral-rich water from Soap Lake, and take advantage of a mud bath consisting of its curative clay. For reservations, call (800) 524-0558 (ext. 100) or (509) 246-0462.

Dry Falls

Dry Falls, just 20 minutes from Soap Lake, is dry, as the name implies but still a stunning destination. Heralding the legacy of once being four times the size of Niagara Falls, Dry Falls is near Sun Lake-Dry Falls State Park where visitors can hike the park’s nature trails, kayak in Deep Lake, or camp under the stars.

Colville National Forest

Colville National Forest boasts 1.1 million acres of forest in the Selkirk mountain range, where the Kettle River and upper reaches of the Columbia River wind. You will witness spectacular views and, if you’re feeling like exploring, this preserve has mountain biking trails, fishing, and winter activities such as cross-country and downhill skiing, and snowboarding.

Sierra Silver Mine

Located in the historic town of Wallace, Idaho, Sierra Silver Mine resides in a rich silver district. You can tour the mine with a retired miner as your guide, and while in Wallace, take a walk through the Oasis Bordello Museum to get some juicy history about this former brothel.

Gardner Limestone Cave

Housed within Crawford State Park is the 500-million old Gardner Limestone Cave. Once a part of the ocean floor, this cavern is the home of interesting and ancient formations, including the Gardner Cave column. These formations have some pretty creative names but have a little fun with coming up with some of your own.

Each of these day trips from Spokane is sure to provide what you are looking while seeking a short hiatus from your beloved city. Soak in some history at Gardner Limestone Cave or Sierra Silver Mine, take in breathtaking views at Colville National Forest, and don’t forget to reward yourself with some healing relaxation at Soap Lake. Tell ‘em Soap Lake Natural Spa and Resort sent ya!
